👻 Haunted House Coloring Step by Step

This haunted house scene is full of small details, but it becomes much easier once you break it into simple stages.

We’ll begin with the night sky, then move to the house and foreground, and finally add strong shadows and texture to create that dark Halloween atmosphere.

Take your time with the darker areas and don’t rush the final shadow steps. The little details on the bricks, roof tiles, and trees are what make the whole picture feel dramatic and alive.

🌌 Step 1 — Carefully Color the Sky

Let’s start with the sky, but this time very carefully.

Use a dark blue or purple and fill only the open sky areas — the spaces between the stars, around the moon, and between the bats.

Stay slightly away from all outlines. Leave a tiny gap near the house, trees, bats, and the moon so everything stays clean.

Keep your strokes light and visible, and don’t try to blend them.

Nothing else should be touched — only the sky.

🏚️ Step 2 — Color the House

Now let’s move on to the house.

Use muted gray and brown tones to fill in everything — the walls, roof tiles, tower, windows, doors, and all the small details.

Work through each section slowly and make sure there are no white gaps left inside the house.

Keep the color flat and even for now, with visible pencil strokes and no shading yet.

Leave the sky, ghost, trees, and ground exactly as they are.

🌲 Step 3 — Color the Foreground and Ghost

Now let’s finish the foreground and bring in the ghost.

Use dark brown for the tree trunks and branches, and earthy tones for the ground and path. Color the rocks with gray or brown shades and fill in all the grass.

For the ghost, use a very light gray or pale blue. Keep it soft and almost white so it stands out without becoming too dark.

Make sure all areas are filled, but keep everything flat and simple for now — no shadows yet.

Leave the house, sky, bats, moon, and stars exactly as they are.

🦇 Step 4 — Darken Sky Edges & Fill the Bats

Now let’s push the contrast a bit more.

Take a darker blue or purple and work only along the outer edges of the sky — the top corners and the sides. Keep the center noticeably lighter so the sky has a soft vignette effect.

Stay slightly away from all outlines and don’t touch the central sky area.

Then color all the bats with a very dark gray or near-black. Fill them completely so they read as solid silhouettes.

Nothing else should change — the house, ghost, trees, and ground stay exactly as they are.

🌄 Step 5 — Darken the Hill Edges

Now let’s add depth to the foreground hill.

Take a darker green or brown and work only along the outer edges of the hill — the left side, right side, and the bottom edge.

Use broad, visible strokes and keep the center area, especially the path, noticeably lighter.

Stay slightly away from the outlines of the house, trees, and ghost so everything stays clean.

Do not shade the trees or the house — only the edges of the ground should change in this step.

🏚️ Step 6 — Define Bricks and Roof Tiles

Now let’s sharpen all the small structural details of the house.

Take a dark gray or brown pencil and go through every brick one by one. Add a thin darker line along the bottom edge and the same side edge for each brick.

Then move to the roof and do the same for every tile — add a darker line along the lower curve of each tile.

Work carefully and keep the pattern consistent. Use short, clear strokes and don’t skip any elements.

Don’t shade large areas — focus only on edges so each brick and tile stands out clearly.
