Ghosts don’t have to be spooky at all. In this collection, they are playful, curious, and full of funny little moments. These colored examples from the ghost coloring pages collection show how a few bright colors can turn each page into a cheerful Halloween scene.

👻 Friendly Ghost Coloring Tutorial

This nighttime scene is playful rather than scary, with a cheerful ghost, flying bats, a glowing moon, and a quiet village in the distance.

We’ll begin with the night sky, then color the ghost and bats before adding deeper shades to the background. The final white pencil details will help the ghost stand out without covering the soft blue color underneath.

There’s no need to rush through the darker steps. Build the colors a little at a time, and the simple drawing will gradually turn into a bright, lively Halloween scene.

🌙 Step 1 — Color the Night Sky

Let’s begin with the quiet nighttime scene behind the ghost.

Choose a dark blue or purple pencil for the sky, then color the moon with pale yellow or cream. Keep the clouds a little lighter so they remain easy to see.

Use muted greens for the trees in the distance and soft warm colors for the small houses. This will give the village a cozy glow without making it too bright.

Color each area gently and evenly. We’re only adding the first layer now, so there’s no need to think about shadows yet.

Leave the ghost and bats completely uncolored — we’ll come back to them in the next steps.

👻 Step 2 — Add a Soft Color to the Ghost

Now let’s give the ghost just a hint of color.

Take a very pale blue or cool light gray pencil and gently color the whole ghost. Use hardly any pressure so it stays much lighter than the night scene behind it.

Keep the color soft and even for now. The ghost should still look almost white, with only a faint cool tint.

Leave the bats and the background exactly as they are. We’ll add more shape to the ghost later.

🦇 Step 3 — Color the Bats

Now let’s add color to the bats flying through the night sky.

Use dark gray, soft purple-gray, or brown-gray for their bodies and wings. Keep the color dark enough to stand out, but don’t press too hard yet.

Add a slightly lighter shade inside the ears and across the wing membranes so the small details remain easy to see.

Keep the colors simple and even for now, without shadows. Leave the ghost and the nighttime background exactly as they are.

🌌 Step 4 — Deepen the Night Background

Now let’s make the night scene feel deeper and a little more mysterious.

Take a darker blue, purple, or blue-gray pencil and add more color around the outer edges of the sky. Keep the middle area near the ghost lighter so it continues to stand out.

Add a few darker strokes beneath the clouds, between the distant hills, and around the small houses. You can also deepen selected areas near the horizon to make the landscape feel farther away.

Leave the ghost, bats, and moon exactly as they are. Work only on the background and build the darker areas little by little.

🦇 Step 5 — Add Shadows to the Bats

Now let’s give the bats more shape so they stand out clearly against the night sky.

Use darker shades of the colors already on the bats. Add stronger strokes beneath the wings, under the bodies, around the ears, and where each wing joins the body.

Follow the curves of the wings as you color, then darken the spaces between the wing sections to make them look folded and three-dimensional.

Keep the shadows bold and easy to see, but avoid pure black. Leave the ghost and the background exactly as they are.

🌕 Step 6 — Add a Glow to the Ghost and Moon

Now let’s brighten the two main lights in the nighttime scene — the ghost and the moon.

Take a white colored pencil and add clear highlights along the top and outer curves of the ghost. Then draw a narrow white halo just outside its shape, following the head, arms, and flowing body.

Move to the moon and add a soft white line around its outer edge. Draw a few thin curved strokes inside the moon near the edge to make it look bright and luminous.

Keep both halos close to the outlines instead of spreading the white across the sky. The dark background should still remain clearly visible around them.

Leave the bats, clouds, stars, houses, and landscape untouched. When you finish, the ghost and moon should stand out as the brightest parts of the picture.
